What are the collaborative robots ( cobots)

Here, at Automation Center, we collaborate and we install machines as ABB, KUKA, FANUC, YASKAWA, UNIVERSAL ROBOT or Mitsubishi. We also create robotic cells.

To have an idea regarding what the cobots or collaborative robots are, you need to know that they are machinery destined to interact with humans in a common space. The collaborative robots have apps that contrast with the traditional apps of the industrial robots, where they are isolated from human contact. They are generally made of light materials and have a small speed and force limit. Besides, they have programs that make them extremely safe at the workplace.

The collaborative robots are either being used in automation, or for household use and professional use, according to the International Federation of Robotics.

They can serve for multiple use, from informative robots used in public spaces, logistic robots that transport materials inside a building, to industrial robots that help automatize soma tasks.

Moreover, the International Federation of Robotics has divided human/robot collaboration into the types below:

  1. Co-existence – the human and the robot work next to each other without separation, but in a common workspace
  2. Sequential collaboration – both human and robot are active in a shared workplace but their moves are sequential – they work on the same piece but not at the same time.
  3. Cooperation – both the robot and the human work on the same piece, at the same time
  4. Receptive collaboration – the robot responds in real time to the movement of the human worker
